Bluntmunch is one of Sir Toadswallow's euphemistically-named goblin underlings.[1]
Relationships[]
He is envious of Toadswallow for being in charge in part because Toadswallow is smaller.[2]
Gerhild wanted him for her army.[3]
Appearance[]
A lumpy, misshapen figure that could be mistaken for a stone. Larger than the other goblins.[4]
Abilities and Art[]
Said to specialize in theft. Physically bigger and stronger than most goblins.[5]
He has a lot of goblin contacts[5] and is skilled in summoning and bullying smaller goblins. He's able to reach into the Warrens in seemingly random places and pull out goblin minions[6] and to bully minor goblins sent against him into switching sides.[7]
His weapon from is called Greatclub MunchaBunch, it is a massive club as think as a small tree trunk with nails around one end[8] that summons smaller goblins when you hit things with it.[9]
Chronology[]
Before the Story[]
Was a long term member of the Kennet community.
Was present for the fight against Zed, before the battle he summoned Butty McButtbutt, Doglick and Snatchragged.[10]
After Bristow's Aware invaded Kennet Bluntmunch brought in several new Goblins he had worked with before, in particular Creamfilled, Kittycough, Fishmittens, Ramjam and Biscuit.[11]
When the trio were put on trail in a kangaroo court by Finnea and a host of Dark Fall faeries Avery used Bluntmunch's weapon form to create chaos, helping them win their freedom.
He was arrested by the trio just before the start of the contest for the Carmine's throne. He was accused of aiding Edith by providing her with the dog meat he and his friends created in exchange for protection from the redcap queen Gerhild.[12]

- ↑ “When a practitioner drops a bit of meat from their nethers and wants to teach it to deal with goblinkind, they like to have goblins they’ve met and made deals with beforehand for the practice and initial lessons. They summon, I go, they pay me.”
“You might get better business if you didn’t call the clients nether-droppings,” Lucy said.
Toadswallow smiled, and it was so fake it looked like someone trying to smile for the first time and doing it badly… with added fangs. “My most regular summoners seem to have misplaced their books, and I have some time to myself. I’m training some of this lot to do the child-work. Cherrypop is the noisy little foetal deposit here in my hands. The big one is… let’s call him Bluntmunch.”
The big goblin groaned, low, long, and drawn out. - Excerpt from Lost for Words 1.2 - ↑ “I won’t say a word to Bluntmunch.” “Bigger is often the same as being in charge, when it comes to goblins. He’d object on basis of size differential alone. It’s truly fucking obnoxious.”- Excerpt from One After Another 10.e
- ↑ Miss said, “If you’re talking about the redcap queen Gerhild, they don’t have a presence that reaches this far.”
“Ya don’t think? Take a look at the Carmine candidate, Breastbiter. I had a feeling they were expanding out, scoutin’. Just felt that way, going by the feel of things in the Warrens. Even before he showed. But then he turned up, and he’s hers.”- Excerpt from Summer Break 13.10 - ↑ She could see the things in the bushes. Small, ugly, and twisted. Something she might have taken as a stone in the corner of her eye was a figure too lumpy and misshapen to be a person. Three other things were perched on him, one maybe a girl, tiny with red-stained skin, her expression twisted into a permanent scowl, then a fat one with what looked like nails sticking point-out from the inside of his belly, wearing a waistcoat and monocle, and a scrawny one with a nose like a pickaxe. - Excerpt from Lost for Words 1.1

- ↑ “I can call friends,” Bluntmunch said.
“He’s good at that. Having dregs he can call,” Gashwad said. “Not good at much else though, are yeh?”

Bluntmunch prowled across the area, found a tree with a decent sized hole in it, and spat in his hand. He drew in the spit, then shoved his hand into the hole.
He brought out a goblin, kicking, scrabbling and making sounds of protest, then held a calloused mitt to their mouth. - Excerpt from Out on a Limb 3.6 - ↑ Bluntmunch picked up two of the gremlins that had overwhelmed his minions, then hollered in their faces.
He dropped them, and they scampered back.
He pointed, and they obeyed.
That was part of his deal. Bossing goblins around. Having that clout.
“Well, we gave them more troops,” Verona observed. - Excerpt from Out on a Limb 3.8 - ↑ I bind you temporarily, Bluntmunch, until you choose to abandon the form. Help us out, take your weapon form. Greatclub Munchabunch!” Bluntmunch put his other arm out, laying it over the first, hair dropping off of his body. Calloused, scarred skin that had been burnt, cut, and many other things and which probably hadn’t been pretty to begin with got even more gnarled, more ugly, twisting in together. He was a big goblin, and a strong one, and according to what he’d told Verona when she’d done her first interviews with the goblins, he’d been sought after. So he became an appropriate weapon. Nearly as long as Avery was tall, narrow at one end and wider at the other, he resembled a broken off section of tree trunk, worn by weather until the splinters and rough bits were mostly gone, much of the wood turned stone-like by treatment or harsh environment. Straps had been wound around the handle, and railroad spikes driven through the heavy end. Like a baseball bat with nails driven through it, but huge. Avery’s fingertips dug into soft wood where it was wood, and found rigidity where it was stone.- Excerpt from False Moves 12.2
- ↑ Bluntmunch was big, he hit hard, and… he was good at bossing around goblins. Muddy goblins of Cherrypop’s caliber started hauling themselves free of the muck in twos and threes, looking around.- Excerpt from False Moves 12.2
- ↑ Bluntmunch prowled across the area, found a tree with a decent sized hole in it, and spat in his hand. He drew in the spit, then shoved his hand into the hole. He brought out a goblin, kicking, scrabbling and making sounds of protest, then held a calloused mitt to their mouth. The goblin was hairless, pear-shaped, alarmingly smooth, and wore frilly granny panties. “You can call this one-” “Mind your manners and keep it f’ing polite,” Toadswallow warned. “-Butty McButtbutt,” Bluntmunch said, deadpan, and the expression on his twisted face made it look like he was dying inside. He repeated the process twice more. Another goblin, of Gashwad’s size, with dreads that trailed to the ground, and a chimp-like build with overlong arms. The face behind the dreads was perpetually snarling. "Doglick.” And a female goblin, with asymmetric muscle that formed a ridge most of the way down her spine, twisting her upper body and head into a question mark shape. One of her arms was twice as long as the other, and bristled with hooks and needles stuck through the skin, until there was more metal visible than flesh. She fought the hardest, raking Bluntmunch’s arm four or five times and backhanding him across the face before she seemed to recognize him, where she retreated. She had one eye that glowed in the dark as she backed up into shadow, so round it didn’t look like an eye in the dark. The other was lost in the scarred mess at the right side of her face. “Snatchragged.”- Excerpt from Out on a Limb 3.6
